“Fisher, we really love this house… but the number is a problem.”

For many Chinese buyers, numbers ending in 4, 14, 34, 44, or even 444 simply don’t feel auspicious.

And every time, my answer is the same:

“Don’t worry—house numbers can be changed.”

In fact, I’ve helped several clients successfully change their municipal address in Oakville.
Today, I want to share the most comprehensive and realistic Oakville House Number Change Guide with you.

1. Can You Really Change Your House Number in Oakville?

Yes!

But there’s one condition:
Your street must have reserved or unused numbers available.

In Oakville, numbering patterns usually fall into two categories:

  • Alternating/skipped numbers → Eligible for change

Most cases take 2–4 weeks, but delays of 1–2 months are common.

For one recent client, this is what happened:

  • 1 month passed — no update

  • We went to Town Hall with the case number →
    Staff told us, “Please continue waiting.”

  • Another month passed — still nothing

  • We went again →
    This time, the staff contacted the Technologist directly, and the email was finally sent.

So here’s my honest advice:

👉 Follow up in person if there’s no update

4. What the Town’s Email Will Tell You

① Whether You Can Change Your Number — And Which Numbers Are Available

They will confirm:

  • Whether your suggested number is available

  • If not, they’ll give alternative options

② Proof of Ownership Is Required

You must provide:

  • 📄 Deed / Transfer (lawyer’s closing document, 8.5 x 14” legal size)

If you’re not the homeowner, a signed authorization is required.

③ How Much Does It Cost?

💰 $1,193
(The payment is made by e-transfer.)

5. After Approval: What You Need to Do

✔ You’ll Receive the Official Address Change Document

A PDF confirming your new municipal address.

✔ The Town Will Update 40+ Public Departments

Including:

  • Canada Post

  • Fire & Police Services

  • Hydro, water, gas

  • Internet providers

  • Other government and service agencies

You don’t need to contact these yourself.

✔ You Must Update Your Personal Records

Such as:

  • Driver’s licence

  • Health card

  • Banking

  • Insurance

  • Any documents using your address

  • And of course — replace your physical house number

The town sends address updates to agencies periodically. For example, the next round might be in late November 2025.
